For the first time, USA Judo will host an event on the Pan American Judo Union Compeition Circuit on May 11-12, 2001 followed by a training camp on May 14-16, 2001. A list of all circuit events is below.

INSURANCE FOR INTERNATIONAL DELEGATIONS: Each International Delegation shall be responsible for its sports accident insurance and civil liability insurance for its members during the championships. The Pan American Judo Union and USA Judo decline all responsibility in these matters.

FLAG AND NATIONAL ANTHEM: Each National Federation must present for victory ceremony a hanging national flag (1.20 m x 1.80 m) and their National Anthem recorded on standard cassette tape.

COSTS: All competition and camp costs, including travel, lodging and food, will be the responsibility of individual delegations.

TRAVEL AND LODGING:: Travel and lodging reservations are the responsibility of the individual delegations.

FOR U.S. ATHLETES ONLY:

ELIGIBILITY FOR U.S. CITIZENS: A U..S. Citizen may participate if he or she is a current member in good standing of United States Judo, Inc. (USA Judo) and is classified A-E on the USA Judo Senior National Roster.

EVENT CLASSIFICATION: This event is classified as International D-level in the USA Judo event classification system.

U.S. TEAM SELECTION RESPONSE DEADLINE: Eligible U.S. athletes must notify the USA Judo National Office, at (719) 578-4730 or by E-mail USJIADMIN@aol.com not later than April 18, 2001 of their desire to attend. The top three (3) classified athletes meeting this deadline will be notified of their selection. Selected Athletes will be required to sign the appropriate Warning and Liability Waiver when they arrive at the event. NOTE: Additional athletes in each weight division MAY be selected to fill slots that are unused, but this is not guaranteed.

COSTS: All competition and camp costs, including travel, lodging and food, will be the responsibility of the contestant with the following exception: Certain U.S. athletes who are classified as A- and B-level will receive a $300.00 reimbursment AFTER attendance at the tournament and successful completion of the training camp. Details of this funding will be communicated directly to those athletes who will receive funding.

GENERAL TIMETABLE AND SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

The following is a general schedule of events. All dates and days of the week are final. However, the times listed are approximate and the Organizing Committee reserves the right to change these, if necessary. The final schedule will be provided to delegations, officials, and athletes, upon arrival.

Tournament and Training Camp Check-In:

In order to complete registration for the event, all athletes must check-in with tournament officials to confirm participation and make a final declaration of weight category. Training Camp check-in will occur at the same time as tournament check-in. Check-in will be conducted at the Boca Raton Marriott (Tournament Headquarters) on Friday, May 11, 2001 between 8 A.M. and 4 P.M In order for check-in to be complete, all forms must be fully and properly completed, including the appropriate signatures, and all fees must be paid, including those for the training camp.

Availability Of Weigh-In Scales:
Scales will be available in Tournament Headquarters beginning Thursday May 10, 2001. The location of the scales will be provided at check-in.

Friday, May 11, 2001 - At the Boca Raton Marriott
0800-1600 (8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.) - Tournament and Training Camp Check-in.
The following activities will occur at the Boca Raton Marriott Exact locations and times will be provided upon arrival:
Technical Officials Meeting: 5-6 pm
Referee Meeting: 4-5 pm
Draw: 6-7 pm
Welcoming Reception: 7:30 pm Coaches, Officials and International Delegations are invited.

RULES AND PROCEDURES

Competition Rules:
The Championships will be conducted in accordance with the Contest Rules, Organization Code and Sporting Code of the International Judo Federation. These rules include, but are not limited to eligibility, draw, weigh-in, length of contests, and competition procedures.

Blue Judogi:
The use of blue judogi is mandatory. Competitors should bring a minimum of two sets of Judogi.

Method Of Competition:

1. Categories having five (5) Competitors or less: Round Robin Pool (every competitor competes against every other competitor) will be used.

2. Categories having six (6) competitors or greater: Knockout System with Double Repechage will be used.

Seeding Of Athletes:
Draw will be random, with the requirement that athletes from the same country will be separated as far apart as possible in the pool.

Notice Of Possible Testing For Banned Substances:
Testing, in accordance with the Anti-Doping Rules and Procedures of the International Judo Federation and U.S. Olympic Committee, and the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), may be conducted to determine whether an athlete is utilizing a substance forbidden by the International Olympic Committee. As an athlete, before taking any medication or supplement, it is your responsibility to find out if any substance in the product is prohibited or restricted. June 1-3 - FECOLJUDO Event, Colombia
