FIRST EDUCATION
AND COACHING SEMINAR OF THE
PANAMERICAN JUDO UNION
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from 4th to 11th November 2002
Santo Domingo, Tuesday November 5th, (2 a.m.) PJU Media Commission. (Special reporter).
At 9 a.m. the lecturers started presenting their speeches in the Education and Coaching Seminar.

Master Teodoro Amici (Amici), member of the Education and Coaching Commission from the Argentinean Judo Federation, opened the Seminar with his speech titled "Judo, Education or Sport?". He dealt with topics related to judo teaching and its various concepts, and topics for reflection about knowledge as a real issue of Judo identity and its needs, acceptabilities and uses.
He spoke from the philosophical viewpoints about the basic principles of judo, about the respect to its fundamental principles, as for instance:
The maxim efficiency in the use of Energy (Seiriyoku Zen' Yo) and Prosperity & Mutual Benefits (Jita Kyoei). He mentioned how difficult can it be the understanding of these principles through studying and practicing judo.
We will be soon publishing in this web´page all the works presented by each of the lecturer, so that these materials can be available in the libraries of all our visitors.
The second speech
was in charge of Ing. Carlos Díaz (Venezuela) about refereeing and realted
to new refereeing techniques and their interpretations. The subjects dealt
in this lecture are linked to the use and interpretation of Kawazu Gake
penalties, the use of Golden Score, the new division of penalties in two big
groups, the new method for bowing in judo competitions, medical time, and
the new computing program for referee's draw in the World Championships and
Olympic Games.
There were a a considerable number of questions asked by the Seminar's participants and the PJU Referee Director, answered them clearly expressing the aims of the Referee Commission of the International Judo Federation. Concerning the rules applying easily understood by competitors, coaches and espectators, the modified rules are already published in these web pages, and can be consulted in different languages.

After a break for lunch, at 5 p.m. Rogerio Sampaio (Brazil) Olympic Champion in Barcelona Olympics, started dealing with different subject matters which can be useful in the tatami. In general, he spoke of what was his experience like in judo competitions, of the training system applied during his successful carreer as a great judo champion, as gold medal winner in World championships and bright olympic champion in Barcelona Olympic Games in the year 1982.
Finally, all the attendants to the seminar could enjoy the fight scenes of Rogerio, not only in the Hamilton World Championship (Canada), but also in each of his victories which took him to the title of olympic winner in Barcelona.
Rogerio offered his help to all countries, giving thanks for the opportunity of participating in this important event showing his gratefulness to the Brazilian Judo Federation, presided by Lic. Paulo Wanderley Texeira, for all the support and responsibilities which have place him in the Brazilian Juvenile Team, who won two gold medals in the masculine category, in the last Juvenile World Championship conducted in Jeju, Korea.
In the closing,
Lic. Luis Chevez, President of the National Federation from El Salvador,
presented a significant information about
the Central american and Caribbean Games, which from Nov 23rd to Dec 7th
take place in the city of El Salvador. They a expect a participation of more
than 5,000 people, including athletes, delegates, coaches, and officials
from the area countries, organized with an investment of more than 63
million dollars.
Lic. Chevez concisely presented detailed information of the history of the before mentioned games, dated from 1924, and considered the oldest Regional Games of the whole world. They were born of an idea that arose in Paris, in the celebration of the Olympic Games, from the delegates of Cuba, Mexico and Guatemala, and at first they were called Central American Games, and were firstly conducted in Mexico city, in 1926, with three participating countries and approximately 225 competitors, taking their participants to all the editions up to now, regreting the fact that in this last edition Cuba could not participate, as Cuba is considered the greatest sportive country from this area.
Lastly, he thanked Cr. Oscar Cassineri for his invitation and for the opportunity to explain what happens in his country to happily organize the games, and also thanked the Executive Committee of the PJU, for the achievements made and technification carried out with the Panamerican Judo.
