SUBJECT:

"GOLDEN SCORE" RULE

Before the imminent regulation of “GOLDEN SCORE" and seen the good results obtained in the World Juniors Championships of Jeju (Korea), next the technical development is detailed for its best understanding.

The system consists basically in that is the eliminated 'Hantei.'

1.- When the time allotted for the contest ends (five minutes for Senior and four minutes for Junior) and there is no score or the scores for each player are equal the result of the contest shall be decided by a “Golden Score.”

2.- The Referee calls ‘Soremade’ and the time clock shall be reset as if for a new contest (the extended time will be the same as for the previous contest).

3.- Any scores, penalties even medical registration shown on the scoreboard shall be cancelled, fully reset.

4.- The referee shall restart the contest in the normal way by calling ‘Hajime’. There will be no rest period between the end of the original contest and the start of the “Golden Score” contest.

5.-The first score or the first penalty awarded shall decide the contest. The contest ends immediately there is a score. The result of the “Golden Score” contest shall be written on the fight sheet. For the result of the fight will only count the technique (or penalty) applied during the Golden Score time.

6.- In the case of Ne-waza where a player is being held and Osae-komi has been called, the Referee will allow the hold down to continue for the 25 seconds (Ippon), until the Osae-komi is broken (Toketa) or a Shime-waza/kansetsu-waza is applied by either Tori or Uke with immediate result.

In this case, the competitor has won by the points according the reached score.

7.- If during “Golden Score” time, a direct Hansoku-Make is awarded, the result for the penalized player will have the same consequences than during a normal fight.

8.- If the “Golden Score” extension contest goes the full distance (five minutes for Senior and four minutes for Junior) without a score (or penalty) then the result shall  be decided by the referee and two judges, who will indicate the winner –after calling ‘Hantei’- by raising the appropriate coloured flag. In this case, the Referee and Judges will only take into consideration the action and ‘Kinsa’ produced during ‘GS’ time, (the previous fight will not count at all for that Hantei).

This shall be indicated, on the contest sheet as a ‘Hantei’ win (1point).

GOLDEN SCORE BY TEAMS.-
Exactly the same procedure on every fight as described above, (Hiki-wake does not exist any more).

In Ne-waza also the same procedure as mentioned above.

If for any reason at the end of a confrontation, the number of victories and points would be equal for both teams, then a draw of three (3) fights from the previous confrontation, will decide the team winner. (This is a present IJF rule, in a near future, only one fight (by draw) will decide the team winner.
