The building selected for the corresponding XIV Pan-American Sport Games is “Casa Nacional del Judo”, located in “Centro Olimpico Juan Pablo Duarte” in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Its rebuilt is thought to begin on September 1st. However, yesterday August 20th 2002, I received a phone call made by the Contractor Engineer in charge of this construction. As I was on my way to Mexico city for this meeting, he explained the first payment permits the immediate start for remodelling this building.

Concerning this matter, it is essential to highlight that we have already had meetings in order to discuss the equipment required by this Pan-American Judo Confederation. At present, this equipment is being searched and quoted, and its availability is also being investigated so as to issue the corresponding purchase order and to be therefore able to count with the necessary equipment in advance.

Our Confederation will nominate the best referees for this competence and with reference to the supporting personnel, there is no doubt about their preparation and availability, since in Santo Domingo we annually organize at least two (2) important international events.

Recently, only 15 days ago, we have issued the bases of the Qualification Process of the athletes who will participate in the before mentioned games, starting with the Pan-American Senior Judo Championships in Santo Domingo from November 4th to November 11th 2002. The bases of this Qualification System, have already been published and all the National Federations affiliated to the Pan-American Judo Union (PJU) have been notified. We will immediately proceed to inform the Coaching Commission of the mentioned games.

It has all been coordinated together with the Coaching Commission of the XIV Pan-American Sports Games. There has been no difficulties regarding the coordination of program in dates and timetables, when the judo competitions will be carried out, as well as dates and timetables for practising have also been accordingly checked.

In relation to what is planned, the judo competitions at XIV Pan-American Sports Games will be carried out the dates appointed by the Sports Director of the Organizing Commission. That is the main reason why the Pan-American Judo Union Sports Director has visited Santo Domingo several times, so as to deal with this and any other possible issue of significance for the organization, preparation and development of this event.

This has been sent by the Coaching Commission of the Games, the Pan-American Judo Union Sports and Refereeing Commissions, in charge of these handouts that have already been revised and corrected by us. This implies that we have entered in the last phase which will allow us, as I believe, to have them definitely in a short period of time.

The athletes who participate in the XIV Pan-American Sports Games, Santo Domingo 2003, will add up points to achieve the Olympic Classification, having his/her aim focused in participating in Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
