Re: Material for the IJF Book
We hope that this note finds you all well.
As you know, we are currently working on
producing the first official book on judo published by the IJF. The book plan and basic
contents have already been approved. One section of the book presents information about
the history, spread, and development of judo in each of the five unions of the IJF. As
such, we would like to receive this information from you to incorporate it in the book. In
particular, we are looking for the following:
-The history of judo in the union, and in as
many of its countries as possible. This material should cover the initial introduction of
judo in the area, along with information concerning the spread and promulgation of judo.
We prefer primary sources in the form of books, booklet, magazines, articles, photographs,
essays, or whatever else may be available.
-In addition, please provide us with basic
statistical information about judo members in your unions - number of participants by
country and total; number of men, women, and children; lists of dan holders; lists and
numbers of clubs) broken down by various periods (e.g. 1950-1960-1970-1980-1990).
In addition to information required for our
chapter on the spread of judo around the world, we are also planning a chapter on judo in
society, in which we will highlight the association between judo and our daily lives as
citizens of the world. As such please furnish the following:
Posters, photographs, art, biographies of
notable individuals who are linked to judo, and the like. If you have some specific, rare
resource or archive, the official IJF photographer Bob Willingham may take a picture of
it when you are in England.
To representatives of the IJF countries: If you
have such information, please forward to your union representatives to bring with them to
England. Else, please forward directly to one of us at the address and contact information
below.
To the union representatives: Please bring as
much of the information requested as possible to the EC meetings in England later this
month.
We apologize for the abruptness of this
request, and realize that it may come at an untoward time for you. Please help us to bring
this project to fruition so that we may complete it in a timely fashion.
