SUBJECT:      2003 Pan American Games – Qualification as a Result of Placing in the 2002
                           Panamerican Judo Union seniors Championships

FOR INFORMATION AND ACTION

As a result of receiving a medal and 5^th and 7^th places, when applicable, the participating athletes from some of the Member Federations have earned a place for their National Olympic Committees for participation in the 2003 Pan American Games (Games).  This means that the places have been earned without the need to further qualify in a particular category. 

The categories and the National Olympic Committee are:

It is very important that each of you whose athletes have qualified a place for their National Olympic Committee immediately begin communications with your National Olympic Committee and receive an early commitment from them that Judo athletes will be included in the delegations that participate in the 2003 Pan American Games.  As soon as you have received a notice that athletes will not be approved for participation, please notify the Sports Director immediately so another National Olympic Committee may be given a chance.  Also, please notify the Sports Director if your National Olympic Committee approves participation.  In this manner, a record may be kept of those National Olympic Committees who have committed to support Judo in the Games.

As of this moment, the following is the compilation:

                   140         -        Total allocation of athletes
                     14         -        Allocation of athletes to the Dominican Republic without qualifying through the qualification events
                    96         -       Athletes who qualified places for their National Committees via the 2002 Panamerican Judo Union Senior Championships
               ________
                    30         -        Remaining athletes to qualify places for their National Olympic Committees.
