EFFECTIVE SPORT NORMS FOR THE OLYMPIC GAMES ATHENS 2004
Concerning:
- dress code for trainers /coaches,
- provisions regarding "Unacceptable Behavior":
Sizes: In past the manufacturers produced Judogis according to usual standards based on the common sense and allowing normal seizures/grips. Regrettably things changed. Several National Federations having asked the IJF to study the question of the size of Judogis, more particularly the thickness of the collar and its width, the studies were led by the technical commissions of the IJF. These found that in spite of practices and the previous manners of the producers of Judogis, some Judogis had been produced with collars preventing in some cases to the opponent from seizing (to take normal Kumi Kata).
Considering this situation, additional analyses were made by studying Judogis different productions (of different periods 40 years, 30 years, 20 years, 10 years, until these last years).
It was determined that the width of the lapel of collar does not have to exceed 5 cm and the thickness of this lapel does not have to be more than 1 cm.
These standards were already applied for the Olympic Games SYDNEY and are still effective.
The Executive committee of the IJF found necessary to remind clearly again indications on this question.
The current rules confirmed by the Congress of the IJF in Osaka 2003 foresee refusal of Judogi not fulfilling conditions stipulated with rules as it is clearly indicated in the article 3 of the Refereeing Rules of the IJF.
- The Judo suit (Judogi), the material does not have to be of a thickness or an 'hardness' being able to prevent the opponent from taking a "seizure/grip"
- Colors: the numbers of pantone of the "blue" are pantone numbers n ° 18-4051 and N ° 18-4039 on the scale for " Pantone Textiles " or n ° 285 now #286 on the scale " Pantone printing} ", according to the rules of the IJF (Sports Code and of Organization …)
During the Olympic Games of Athens, compliance, sizes of Judogis and in particular thickness and width of collars will be controlled systematically as well as markings and correspondence of colors.
An IJF ‘ad-hoc’ Commission will be established to supervise this issue.
At the Games no advertising is permitted on the Judogis.
One trade mark/ logo of the judogi manufacturer of maximum 20 cm² is allowed on the jacket, the belt, and the trousers (one on each piece). On the shoulders in the area 25 x 5 cm National Colors are acceptable.
These will take place after the conclusion of the last final of the same day. The competitors dressed either of their tracksuit of member of national team or of their judogi will take place behind the podium according to the following order 2,1,3,3. Every competitor having gained a medal has to attend the ceremony and receive his medal personally. If a competitor is absent during the awarding ceremony without valid ground (except case of force major) he will lose the right for the medal. It is strictly forbidden for athletes when they are as in the 'field of play' under control of the IJF as on the podium, to have national flags or similar identifications others than those representing in the regular manner on their dresses.
Any demonstration with religious, political, personal or commercial connotation is prohibited as well as to bear a cap or any similar covers on the head.
The Congress of the IJF in 1993 has granted possibility to the Trainers to have a place near the competition area to allow them to give technical information and advices to their competitors. On any account it does not authorize them to interfere in the decisions of the referees, even to challenge/appeal on them or to disrupt the general organization of events organized with the IJF or under its technical authority. In case these indications would not be followed, the IJF would see itself in the obligation to act according to capacities indicated under the point 5.
4) Dress code of the trainers / coaches.
The trainers / coaches have to be either in tracksuit, or in a suited decent dress while they officiate (to bear a cap or everything covers head, whatsoever it is, is forbidden).
For all the cases of behavior considered as unacceptable during events organized with the IJF or under the authority of the IJF, a hearing must be led on the site as soon as possible during the event allowing the person having had behavior considered with the IJF as unacceptable to be listen by the Executive Committee of the IJF/Jury or the representatives of the Executive Committee/Jury of the IJF; he can be accompanied by a person of his choice, or be represented by another person.
