The Executive Committee of the International Judo Federation has approved the organization and conducting of a 2005 Promotional Judo Tournament by Teams to be conducted on September 12, 2005, a day after the conclusion of the 2005 World Senior Judo Championships.
Some specifics are:
1. Number of Teams:
a)
Female – 8 Teams:
AJU – 1 team, JUA – 1 team, EJU – 1 team, PJU – 1 team, OJU – 1 team, Egypt
– 1 team, 2003 WC Team events finalists – 2 teams (Japan and China)
b)
Men – 8 Teams:
AJU – 1 team, JUA – 1 team, EJU – 1 team, PJU – 1 team, OJU – 1 team, Egypt
– 1 team, 2003 WC Team events finalists – 2 teams (France and Japan)

Composition of Teams:
-
Every Union will compose a team ‘woman’ (5
competitors) and a team ‘man’ (5 competitors) according to weight categories
indicated below.
-
Every competitor is entitled to compete in his own
weight category or in the next higher category.
-
Every Team has the possibility of having 2 competitors
as “reserves” (this providing the possibility of replacements up to 4 categories
due to the fact that reserves have also the right to compete in his own weight
category or on the next higher category).
-
A Team must be constituted at least by 3 competitors.
-
Egypt, as organizing country, will present for its
part a National Team for men and a National Team for women.
Female:
- Up to and including 52KG
- Over 52KG up to and including 57KG
- Over 57KG up to and including 63KG
- Over 63KG up to and including 70KG
- Over 70 KG
Male:
- Up to and including 66K
- Over 66KG up to and including 73KG
- Over 73KG up to and including 81KG
- Over 81KG up to and including 90KG
- Over 90 KG
3. Weigh-In:
- The athletes who had taken part to the 2005 WC will not require weigh-in.
- The athletes who haven’t taken part to the 2005 WC will require weigh-in.
4. Judogi:
- White and blue
5. Medals and Diplomas:
- 9 Gold
(5 + 2 reserve competitors + 2 for trainer and team official),
- 9 Silver (5 + 2 reserve competitors + 2 for trainer and team official) and
- 18 Bronze (5 + 2 reserve competitors + 2 for trainer and team official x 2
teams)
- Diplomas
for all Team members belonging to the 3 ranked Teams
- Participation
diplomas for all participants
6. Selection of Team Members to Represent the Panamerican Judo Union:
At a meeting conducted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States of America, on August 6, 2005, the majority of the members of the Executive Committee of the Panamerican Judo Union approved the following procedures:
a) Spanish:
1) Se eligiran los mejores clasificados de cada categoria del campeonato del mundo en masculino y femenino.
2) Para la division de mas de 90KG, se designara el mejor clasificado de las divisiones de 100, +100KG y division libre.
3) La division de mas de 70 kilogramos se eligira a la mejor clasificada de las divisiones de 78, +78 kilogramos y la division libre.
4) La UPJ reembolsara la penalidad por el cambio de salida del boleto aereo que no exceda el valor de 250 dolares y que no implique la compra de un nuevo boleto, para atletas, atletas sustitutos y entrenadores.
5) Los entrenadores de los equipos se seleccionaran en base al equipo que tenga mayor numero de competidores por pais, tanto en masculino como en femenino.
6) Los sustitutos de los equipos seran seleccionadas por el Director Deportivo de la UPJ.
7) Todo lo no previsto en cuanto a la seleccion de los equipos masculino y femenino sera resuelto por el Director Deportivo de la UPJ.
b) English:
1) The best classified males and females from each weight category at the World Championships.
2) For the weight categories of +90KG, there will be designated the best classified in the divisions of 100KG, +100KG and the Open division.
3) For the weight category of +70KG, thee will be designated the best classified of 78KG, +78KG and Open division.
4) The PJU will reimburse any penalty caused for any changes to existing airline ticket that does not exceed $250. This will not apply to the purchase of a new airline ticket for athletes, substitute athletes and coaches.
5) The Team coaches will be selected by the country with the highest number of competitors from that country in males as well as females.
6) The Team substitutes will be selected by the Sports Director from the Panamerican Judo Union.
7) Everything with regards to the selection of Team competition for both males and females will be resolved by the Sports Director of the Panamerican Judo Union.
