August 03 2005.
Santo Domingo, D.N.
Republica Dominicana.

To: All the Presidents of National Federations Affiliated to the Pan-American Judo Union.

Subject: Pan-American Judo Union History Book. -

Distinguished Presidents:

Is a pleasure to communicate you, that always I have been thinking in the Pan-American Judo benefits and for this desire to establish the Pan-American Judo History, is necessary gather the Judo History in each country part of the Pan-American Judo, the Committee Director of the PJU has taken the initiative to make a book where the Pan-American Judo History will be collected from the foundation in 1952 until our days.

How you know in the Ordinary Congress realized in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in November 2002 was presented a compendium of the last 50 years, this presentation had an excellent welcome by all presents delegates.

In this opportunity we want to leave captured that presentation at the same time that we want to enlarge it with the history of each national federations affiliated to the UPJ, understanding that the Pan-American judo history not born with the creation of the Pan-American Judo Union, because the practice of our sport was previously in many countries, and for this reason was created the Pan-American judo.

Inside this compendium, we want to leave collected too, results of the Pan-American championships infantile, juvenile and adults, kata competitions, team, ippon trophy winners, the members of the all stars team, our world olympic medalists, the results of regional games, Central American Games, Bolivarianos Games, South American Games, Central American Games and Caribbean and Pan-American Games.

Based on the previously suitable thing we request all our friends, presidents and experts who really know about the rich Pan-American Judo history, collaborations not only sending us writings, we need all kind of material as posters, diplomas, pictures, documents, cuttings of newspapers (everything in digital format) so this idea could be concluded for the next Ordinary Congress of PJU in 2006.

This will be the legacy that rots to be left to the future judoka generations but to make this reality each country should send their Judo history as pictures, posters, etc. This way we will have an enriched document.

We annex a form which should be remitted to the PJU presidency with whole material that you consider necessary to be classified and adapted to our original idea.

To coordinate this activity it has been named Mr. Luis Guardia, who in  2002 congress carries out the presentation of the 50 years old of the Pan-American Judo and will be working with a group of people remembering the Pan-American Judo, in conjunction with the executive committee and the different commissions of the UPJ, in this way, having a multidisciplinary team we can make a great summary of our history, and when it is concluded will be published in a book, to be delivered to the judokas of the continent, although will be put in our Web site to have it in a electronic format too.

Note: formats are annexed in English and Spanish.

Only we can have memory if we know our history!

Waiting their collaboration, says goodbye,

Best Regards,

Eng. Jaime Casanova M.
PJU President
